[Pyeongtaek Eats] Better Than the Famous Songtan Spots? Authentic Review of 'Unam Myeong-ga Budae-jjigae' (Free Drinks & Parking Tips!)

Welcome back to Kovolution!

When you think of Pyeongtaek or Songtan, Budae-jjigae (Army Base Stew) is likely the first thing that comes to mind. While there are two world-famous spots in the Songtan area, I personally find this place much more satisfying. Today, I’m sharing my review of Unam Myeong-ga Budae-jjigae (Pyeongtaek Branch) in Habjeong-dong—a place that offers a clean broth, incredible value, and a 10,000% revisit rate!

πŸ“ Essential Info & Parking Hacks

  • Location: 98 Pyeongtaek 5-ro, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do.

  • Ease of Access: It is located right on the main road (Pyeongtaek 5-ro), making it very easy to find.

  • πŸš— Parking Tip: Parking can be tricky on the main road, but here is the secret: Street parking is allowed right in front of the shop between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM! If you're visiting for lunch, make sure to use this window.

  • Note: They are closed every Wednesday, so don't let your cravings lead you to a closed door!

🏠 First Impressions: "Keep Your Shoes On!"

When you arrive, you’ll see huge signs on the door shouting "Please enter with your shoes on!" Even though there is a shoe rack, don't be fooled—just walk right in. The interior is spacious and well-ventilated, making for a very comfortable dining experience.

Two things made me fall in love with the owner's mindset before the food even arrived:

  1. Homemade Kimchi: They have a banner stating they make their kimchi in-house using Korean cabbage. Finding a place that avoids imported kimchi is a huge plus in my book!

  2. Free Unlimited Drinks: This is the highlight. They have a soda dispenser with Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and Chilsung Cider—all free and unlimited! In an era where a can of soda costs 2,000 KRW, this level of generosity is top-tier.

🍲 The Main Event: A Mountain of Green Onions

  • Price: 11,000 KRW per person (and yes, a bowl of rice is included!).

  • The Visuals: The stew arrives with a massive pile of shredded green onions, a slice of cheese, and a giant scoop of minced garlic on top. Underneath, it’s packed with ham and sausages.

  • The Rice: They serve the rice in a large bowl, making it perfectly designed for scooping the stew over and mixing it all together.

🍜 The "Shin Ramyun" Surprise

Usually, when you order a ramen add-on (sari), restaurants give you those plain yellow "noodle-only" packs. But at Unam Myeong-ga? For just 1,000 KRW, they give you a whole bag of Shin Ramyun! I honestly wondered if the owner is making any profit.

πŸ“ The Verdict: Why It's My #1

Unlike the heavy, greasy style often found in Songtan, the broth here is refreshing and clean, thanks to the abundance of green onions and garlic. It’s a deep, satisfying flavor that won’t leave you feeling bogged down.

Between the unlimited drinks, the Shin Ramyun bonus, and the flawless broth, this place has officially taken the top spot in my heart. If you are looking for the best Budae-jjigae in Pyeongtaek, look no further.

Revisit Intention: 10,000%!!!
