Aewol’s Ultimate Seafood Feast: Ocean Views and Fresh Sashimi at Namttori

Welcome to Kovolution!

If you are traveling along the stunning Aewol Coastal Road in Jeju, there is one destination that perfectly combines the island’s freshest seafood with a million-dollar view. Today, I’m excited to share a review of Namttori Sashimi Restaurant (남또리횟집)—a place where the quality of the fish is as breathtaking as the ocean right outside the window.,

📍 Prime Location & Atmosphere

  • Address: 1st Floor, 384 Aewolhaean-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si (

  • The View: The restaurant is situated right across from the sparkling blue waters of Aewol. If you visit on a day with clear skies, the outdoor terrace is the absolute place to be. Feeling the salt spray and the ocean breeze while enjoying world-class sashimi is a true Jeju "healing" experience.

  • Modern Comforts: Inside, the restaurant is spacious and clean, featuring a convenient tablet ordering system at every table, which makes it very approachable for international visitors.

🐟 The Main Event: A Masterclass in Sashimi

At Namttori, you have the option to order specific varieties like Mackerel (고등어), Hairtail (갈치), or Red Sea Bream (황돔), but to get the full experience, the Assorted Sashimi (모듬회) is the way to go.

The Assorted Sashimi Platter

The presentation is a work of art, served on a bed of ice to maintain peak freshness. Here is a breakdown of what we enjoyed:

  • Red Sea Bream (Hwangdom): The star of the show. We ordered a side of this specifically. It was wonderfully fatty and rich, offering a melt-in-your-mouth texture that was incredibly satisfying.
  • Mackerel (Godeungeo): A Jeju specialty. It was remarkably fresh with no fishiness, just a clean, savory finish.
  • Salmon: Thick, buttery slices that provided a nice contrast to the local white fish.
  • Tuna (Maguro): Deep red and lean, adding a sophisticated touch to the platter.
  • Red Shrimp (Amaebi): Sweet and delicate, these were a highlight for the seafood lovers at the table.
  • Abalone & Sea Squirt: Fresh from the Jeju waters, providing that distinct "scent of the sea."

The Red Sea Bream, in particular, stood out. While it is a bit on the oily side compared to other white fish, that fat content carries a deep, umami flavor that pairs perfectly with a bit of fresh wasabi.

🍶 Discovering Jeju’s Tradition: Heobeoksul (허벅술)

To complement such a high-quality meal, we ordered Heobeoksul, a premium traditional liquor of Jeju.

  • What is it? Heobeoksul is a distilled spirit made from sweet potatoes and aged in a traditional Jeju clay jar called a "Heobeok."

  • The Taste: It has a surprisingly smooth and clean finish despite its strength. The aging process in the clay jar gives it a subtle, earthy aroma that cleanses the palate perfectly between different types of sashimi. It is often considered the "Pride of Jeju" when it comes to spirits.

🍗 For the Non-Sashimi Eaters: Chicken Karaage

If you are traveling with someone who isn't a fan of raw fish, Namttori has you covered. We also tried the Chicken Karaage, which was a delightful surprise. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and served with a fresh cabbage salad topped with a savory dressing. It’s a great "safety" menu item that ensures everyone in your group leaves happy and full.

📝 Final Verdict

Namttori Sashimi Restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it’s a place to experience the culinary heritage of Jeju. From the expertly sliced Red Sea Bream to the smooth finish of Heobeoksul, every element of the meal felt intentional and high-quality.

Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner with a sunset view or a feast with friends after a day of exploring Aewol, I highly recommend stopping by.
