[Pyeongtaek Eats] The Magical Broth That Cures Hangovers & Calls for Soju! A 100% Genuine Review

Welcome back to Kovolution!

Today, I have prepared a post about a guaranteed waitlist hotspot in Pyeongtaek that everyone in the know already knows about: #OndalHaemulguk!

It is a legendary(?) hangover soup restaurant where you go to cure your stomach after drinking heavily the night before, only to take one sip of the broth and end up ordering Soju all over again!  I left completely satisfied with the incredible quality of the seafood packed into the maesaengi (seaweed) base.

Let's dive right into the review!

πŸ“ Location & The Waitlist

  • Address: 6 Bangyeoul-ro 39beon-gil, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do

Here is the exterior of the restaurant as soon as you arrive! Doesn't the sign just ooze the vibe of a true local hotspot?

This place is a literal 'line-up restaurant' that always has a massive wait! γ… γ…  If you go during meal times, you absolutely must pull a waitlist ticket first and wait. While waiting, you can scan the menu at the entrance.

🍲 Overwhelming Visuals! The Magical Maesaengi Seafood Soup

Once you sit down and order, they set up neat side dishes like kimchi, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and musaengchae (shredded radish) that perfectly complement the soup.

And finally, the highly anticipated seafood soup appears!!!

Normally, when you think of seafood soup, you imagine a clear or red broth. But here, they specially boil it with a generous amount of 'Maesaengi' (seaweed), giving the broth a deep green color and an artistic scent of the ocean.

Can you see how packed the ingredients are?

First, the most touching part! It is loaded with plump, fully de-boned cod meat, making it incredibly easy to just scoop up with a spoon without the hassle of picking out bones. γ… γ…  On top of that, it overflows with fresh, large oysters and savory, soft Goni (milt), making the texture and taste absolutely insane.

🍢 The Magic of Curing a Hangover and Calling for Alcohol

The real kicker about this broth is that one sip of the hot maesaengi completely soothes your stomach, curing your hangover perfectly.

But if you glance around the restaurant, a funny scene unfolds.  Middle-aged men who came sweating to cure their hangovers take a taste of the broth, eventually fail to hold back, and shout, "Boss, one bottle of Soju here~!" as they start day drinking again!

While eating, I 200% understood exactly how those men felt!  The broth is so insanely refreshing and deep that it's a magical taste that inevitably calls for alcohol.

The empty bowl proves just how delicious it was, right? I scraped the bottom of the earthen pot completely clean without leaving a single drop of broth!

πŸ“ Final Verdict by Kovolution

From the thoughtfulness of the de-boned cod to the fresh oysters and goni, and the overwhelming refreshing taste created by the cheat code, maesaengi! It was the best seafood soup in Pyeongtaek, and I immediately understood why people willingly line up to eat here.

If you need a perfect hangover cure from drinking too much the night before, or if you want to nourish your body with a hearty, hot broth, I unconditionally and highly recommend this place! (If you go and end up drinking again, that's entirely on you!

Next time, I plan to go with the sole intention of having drinks with my meal! γ…Žγ…Ž Intention to revisit: 10,000%!!!
